A 60-metre high construction crane has caught fire and collapsed on a building site at the University of Technology in Sydney's CBD.
Lend Lease, the company contracted to run the building site, confirmed no one was injured in the incident.
The company confirmed in a press statement the accident happened at the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) construction project.
"Lend Lease is working closely with emergency services and relevant authorities to rectify the situation," a spokesman for the company said.
The spokesman told SBS the crane was owned by a subcontractor.
Around 100 workers from the building site at Chippendale and another 100 from surrounding buildings were evacuated after the crane caught alight shortly before 9.40am (AEDT) on Tuesday.
The crane operator made it safely down from the crane and was being medically assessed, Fire and Rescue NSW acting superintendent Josh Turner told AAP.
He said there was some shaking of the crane tower when the boom collapsed, forcing emergency crews to withdraw to a safe distance.
The fire was contained within the cabin and fire crews were attempting to position ladder platforms nearby to better tackle the blaze, Supt Turner said.
"The priority is maintaining the stability of the crane," he said.
The crane is at a building site on Broadway where the boom fell onto a University of Technology Sydney building, causing significant damage.
It's not yet known if anyone is injured, the crane's driver managed to escape.
