Cricket Aust closes six-year radio deals

The ABC, Macquarie Media and Crocmedia will broadcast cricket during the next six Australian summers.

Cricket Australia has signed a six-year radio deal with three partners, including the ABC, that will guarantee national coverage of all women's Big Bash League games.

CA has finalised new radio rights deals with the ABC, Macquarie Media and Crocmedia.

Triple M, the FM network that tempted Kerry O'Keeffe out of retirement, pulled out of the race earlier this year.

CA signed a $1.2 billion TV deal earlier this year with Fox Sports and the Seven Network, ending its long association with the Nine Network.

There was speculation on Thursday that the sporting body would do the same with ABC, who have been broadcasting Tests since the 1934 Ashes.

"We were very disappointed by inaccurate reporting this week suggesting that the ABC would no longer broadcast cricket. It undermined our commitment to the ABC and the ABC's longstanding commitment to cricket," CA chief executive James Sutherland said in a statement.

"Never for a minute had it crossed our minds that the ABC was not a staple in the Australian cricketing summer."

In addition to men's and women's internationals, the ABC has agreed to cover the entire WBBL - which will be available across Australia via a mix of digital and AM/FM channels.

Macquarie will cover women's internationals, men's internationals and the BBL.

Crocmedia's 1116 SEN, who covered Australia's tour of South Africa earlier this yea, will broadcast BBL matches plus men's Tests.
