Fans of the late Phillip Hughes, who passed away on Thursday, have been posting images of their cricket bats online to pay their respects to the cricketer.
The 25-year-old did not regain consciousness after being hit by a bouncer at the SCG on Tuesday.
Yesterday, Sydney dad Paul Taylor tweeted a picture of a cricket bat near his front door with the hashtag #putyourbatsout, saying it was a mark of respect.
The hashtag soon gained momentum with cricket fans and friends from London to Sydney to Chicago to Tamworth posting their personal tributes to Phillip Hughes.
While Mr Taylor refused to comment to the media, he did say it was a time for cricketers young and old to remember.
"#Putoutyourbats isn't about me," he wrote on Twitter.
"It's just a way for all cricketers to show their respects to Phillip Hughes. We've all played cricket in one way or other. Backyard or beach cricket, no matter what level, we've all grown up with a bat and ball."
"This is our way to connect and show our sadness."
This morning the hashtag was trending on Twitter in Australia and the United Kingdom.
