Cricket NSW has initiated the process to find a replacement for chief executive Andrew Jones, who has announced he is leaving the organisation at the end of this season.

Jones, who was appointed in July 2013, revealed he was leaving at a delegates' meeting on Monday night.

Following the recent announcement of a $50 million state of the art community and high performance cricket centre at Sydney Olympic Park, Jones felt it was an appropriate time to move on.

"I had originally intended to serve for five years but it was important to resolve the Cricket NSW facilities situation before leaving," he said.

"With the Wilson Park development locked in, the Blues playing well under coach Phil Jaques and most other areas of Cricket NSW in excellent shape, it's time for me to attack something new, most likely in the private sector."

Cricket NSW chairman John Knox thanked Jones for his contribution.

"He will leave the role with our Big Bash clubs enjoying record attendances and viewership, grassroots participation at its highest ever levels and record revenue," he said.

"Cricket NSW has also won every available professional and pathway title during his tenure."

Jones, who previously worked as Cricket Australia's head of strategy, said he would leave with fond memories.

"It is a joy to do what you love for a living," he said.

"Why wouldn't you when you work with the likes of Alyssa Healy, Steve Smith, Josh Hazlewood and Ellyse Perry, who are among the very best in the world at what they do?"
