Cricket team's culture to be reviewed: CA

The conduct and culture of the Australian cricket team will be independently reviewed after the fallout from the ball-tampering scandal battered its reputation.

Cricket Australia will set up an independent review into "the conduct and culture" of the men's teams following the cheating scandal.

"We will have more to say about this review in the coming days, but it will be conducted by an expert panel who will report to the Cricket Australia Board," CEO James Sutherland said.

The review follows the fallout from the ball-tampering incident in the third Test in South Africa on the weekend that has rocked the team.

The playing group has been split by the incident, with several angered they were dragged into the speculation over who was involved.

The CA investigation found captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were the only three who knew of the plan during Saturday's play.

They are being sent home to Australia in disgrace and will face further sanctions in the coming days.

Questions have also been raised about the conduct and culture of the team, including the players' use of sledging and their ruthlessness.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has called for a change in attitude, especially with sledging.

"It has got right out of control; it should have no place on a cricket field," he said in Canberra on Tuesday

CA chairman, David Peever acknowledged Australian cricket had to do something to address the damage to its reputation, both with fans and in the cricket world.

"Ultimately, it is about whether Australians can feel proud of their national sporting teams," Peever said in the statement.

"That depends as much on the way the players conduct themselves, as it does about winning or losing. It is about how we play the game."
