Cricketer White determined to bounce back

Only a week after being part of a Cricket Australia XI, Cameron White has been named captain of the Victorian Futures League team.

Cameron White is determined to ensure his cricket demotion is temporary, saying he still wants to play for Australia.

Only a week ago, White was in the Cricket Australia XI for the abandoned tour match against New Zealand in Blacktown.

But next week, he will captain the Victorian Futures League team in Hobart.

White thinks 1998 was the last time he played in a state second XI team.

The former state captain was dropped during last month's domestic one-day competition and has been unable to force his way into the Bushrangers line-up for their first two Sheffield Shield matches.

But White has spoken to Victorian coach David Saker and chairman of selectors Andrew Lynch, telling them not to write him off.

"I feel as though I'm in really good form at the moment," he told AAP.

"I batted really well in the Matador Cup and I just didn't capitalise on any starts.

"I guess I'm just going into that match (against Tasmania) hoping to get some time in the middle and it's also a good opportunity to work with some of the younger players."

White, 32, is also buoyed by the Australian selections of batsmen such as Chris Rogers and Adam Voges in their 30s.

"I just have to make really make sure I let Andrew Lynch know I am only 32 - not to write me off," he said.

"I still want to play for Australia.

"I feel as though I'm only getting better as a player - I honestly believe, as a batsman, you start to understand your game as you get a bit older."

White has played for Australia in all three formats.

He noted in his last international T20 game a year ago, he was man of the match.

White had made 137 runs for Victoria in six domestic one dayers before he was dropped last month - a classic case of making starts but not going on with them.

"That's exactly what happened - I'm batting as well as ever, I just didn't capitalise," he said.

"It's pretty simple."

While White has made his feelings clear to the Bushrangers hierarchy, he also knows there is no point arguing about his demotion.

"One of the things about selection - no matter what you say, they're not going to change their minds, are they?" he said.
