Cripps, Sandilands set for AFL return

Carlton are set to welcome back young star Patrick Cripps for the first time since he suffered a back injury in November.

Carlton's Patrick Cripps and Fremantle's Aaron Sandilands are the latest big guns named to make their AFL pre-season returns.

Young Blues star Cripps is set to play against St Kilda at Princes Park on Saturday - his first game since suffering a stress reaction in his back in November.

The Blues have also named new draftees Cameron Polson, Tom Williamson and Harrison Macreadie in their 29-man squad, which will be cut to 26.

St Kilda forward Nick Riewoldt has been rested and will join fellow veteran Leigh Montagna (calf) on the sidelines after his starring role in last week's game against Port Adelaide.

Fremantle ruckman Sandilands will be joined by reigning best-and-fairest winner Lachie Neale for the Dockers' clash with Collingwood in Mandurah, near Perth.

Star Collingwood recruit Daniel Wells (calf) has again been left out and is in a race against time to be fit for round one.

The Magpies will welcome back star midfielders Scott Pendlebury, Adam Treloar and Taylor Adams.

Geelong captain Joel Selwood and his brother Scott are in line to return against Adelaide on Sunday.

Promising forward Mitch McGovern (knee) has joined a growing list of Crows - including star midfielder Rory Sloane (fractured cheekbone) - sidelined by injury but ruckman Sam Jacobs has overcome a minor back niggle.

Richmond have confirmed the return of All-Australian defender Alex Rance against Port Adelaide on Sunday, while star recruit Dion Prestia has been left out with the Tigers managing his workload.

Robbie Gray and Darcy Byrne-Jones headline the Power's inclusions.
