Former Newman government minister David Crisafulli is adamant he has no ambitions to take on the leadership of Queensland's Liberal National Party.

The 38-year-old lost his Townsville seat of Mundingburra in the 2015 state election but is eyeing off a return to state politics after winning pre-selection for the Gold Coast seat of Broadwater.

Many have tipped Mr Crisafulli as a future premier, with former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett and Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate among his admirers.

Standing next to current Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls at a press conference on Tuesday, Mr Crisafulli was unequivocal in his response when asked if he harboured ambitions for the top job.

"No," was his simple reply.

Mr Crisafulli was one of several Gold Coast LNP MPs and candidates to join Mr Nicholls at an announcement at Coomera.

With the LNP holding all 10 seats in the area, the Labor government is desperate to make up ground on the Gold Coast if it wants to retain power.

Redistribution for the next election means there will be two new seats - Theodore and Bonney - in the region while Albert has been abolished.

Southport and Gaven, held by Rob Molhoek and Sid Cramp respectively, are two of the most marginal seats for the LNP on the tourist strip.

"I think we've got a great prospect here on the Gold Coast," Mr Nicholls said.

"But we don't take it for granted. We know that Gold Coast is a growing city. We know it needs better connections and communications with the rest of the region."
