Cronulla have added South Sydney outside back Aaron Gray to their squad for the 2018 NRL season.

The former NSW City representative, who has played most of his career at Souths on the wing before a recent switch to the centres, has signed a two-year deal with the premiers which will see him walk away from his junior club.

Gray, 23, will lend depth to the Sharks squad and joins an already formidable backline which is set to add NSW centre Josh Dugan next year.

"I want to give a massive thanks to Souths for giving me a start and for what they've done for me and we certainly want to finish this season strongly," the Mascot junior said.

"But I'm also really excited and very much looking forward to the new opportunity at the Sharks."

Gray has made 39 NRL appearances since debuting in 2015 and Sharks coach Shane Flanagan said we were yet to see the best of him.

"Aaron has had a few injuries, which means he's had a few false starts in his career," Flanagan said.

"I'm looking forward to having him on board next year.

"He can play wing or centre, is a powerful runner, very skilful and is experienced for a young bloke."
