Crow coasts to Olympic rowing berth

Australia has qualified two boats - the women's single sculls and men's double scull - for the Rio Olympics at the rowing world championships in France.

Kim Crow has booked a place at the Rio Olympics, now it's time to win back her single sculls world title.

The Australian comfortably won her semi-final on Friday at the rowing world championships on Lake Aiguebelette in France to advance to Sunday's final.

Only needing to finish in the top three to assure the boat will head to Brazil next year, Crow led all the way to go through to the medal race as the fastest qualifier.

Australia's men's double sculls crew of Alexander Belonogoff and James McRae were also speedy enough to book their berth for Rio with second place in their semi.

However, their female counterparts weren't as convincing, coming home in fifth in their semi-final to move into the B final, in which they'll need to finish in the top five of six starters to qualify for Rio.

It was a disappointing result for the crew of Olympia Aldersey and Sally Kehoe, who won bronze at last year's world titles in Amsterdam.

Their time of 6mins 59.05secs was well off the pace, over seven seconds behind the winning Greek crew.

Crow is aiming to win back her world title she relinquished last year to New Zealand's Emma Twigg, who isn't competing in France.

Crow's time of 7mins 23.33secs was just over a second faster than China's Jinglki Duan, who won the other semi-final.

The Victorian's main competition is still likely to come from reigning Olympic champion, Czech Mirka Knapkova, who was second behind Duan.
