Crows next in giant-killing Lions' sights

Having already toppled AFL heavyweights West Coast, Sydney and Port Adelaide at home this season, high-flyers Adelaide are the next team in Brisbane's sights.

They've already toppled three of their AFL bogey teams at the Gabba in 2019 and now Brisbane are planning to repeat the dose against high-flyers Adelaide.

The Lions last defeated the Crows in Round 21, 2012, having lost their past seven encounters home and away to the South Australian club.

Defying history has, however, become a recurring theme on home soil for the Lions this year with victories against West Coast, Port Adelaide and Sydney ending poor recent runs against those teams.

Veteran defender Luke Hodge is excited about the Lions' potential for another big result, against the Crows who have climbed to third on the ladder after four-straight wins.

"The start we've had has been pleasing but there's still some areas for improvement and Adelaide's another opportunity," Hodge said.

"We've been able to beat a few teams we haven't beaten for a number of years and Adelaide are playing some good footy by winning the last four.

"We'll be looking to put it up to them again."

The Lions received an on-field spray by coach Chris Fagan at three-quarter time in last Saturday's 16-point loss to the Western Bulldogs in Ballarat.

Hodge said Fagan's disappointment at his team's effort after the main break is a reflection of the higher standard now being demanded of the Lions after a 5-3 start to the season.

"That third quarter, they dominated us and we couldn't get the momentum back our way," the 35-year-old Hodge said.

"Once again our expectations have risen as we've been able to get this group together.

"When we do have a bad quarter of football we're more disappointed than anyone else and I think Fages has high expectations of this group and so do we."
