Crows skipper not happy with AFL fine

AFL match review officer Michael Christian handed out eight fines and banned Richmond's Nick Vlastuin for one game following his assessment of round 15.

Taylor Walker will wear a hefty fine for standing his ground against Luke Shuey if it gets him an invite to AFL boss Gillon McLachlan's lavish end-of-year shindig.

The Adelaide skipper was slapped with a $2500 fine that drops down to $1500 with an early guilty plea for misconduct against the West Coast midfielder.

Those figures are easy to throw around when it comes to well-paid professional athletes and Walker has shelled out for a few of fines over the journey.

But the second-quarter exchange of blows between the pair drew lopsided consequences that got under Walker's skin.

Shuey punched Walker in the back without much malice and with inconsequential force then received a similar blow in the chest in return from the Crows forward and it ended there.

It was little more than you would see from two brothers in the backyard.

But Walker got fined and Shuey got away scot-free.

"Gil you better have me on your Xmas break up list... honestly! #donations #contact #retaliatoralwaysgetscaught," tweeted the Crows skipper.

Brodie Smith, ever the one to share a laugh with or at a Crows teammate, couldn't resist.

"Double it Gil," he tweeted in reply.

A clearly aggrieved Walker has until 11am AEST Tuesday morning to decide if he wants to risk $1000 to challenge the finding.

Richmond's Nick Vlastuin was the only player to be slapped with a ban following AFL match review officer Michael Christian's assessment of round 15.

Vlastuin will miss Friday night's clash with Adelaide at the MCG after he accepted a one-game suspension for striking Sydney's Luke Parker.

Eight other players, including Walker and Swans superstar Lance Franklin, were slapped with fines for their respective misdemeanours.

Eyebrows were raised when Franklin was charged with misconduct against Tigers' star Alex Rance and not striking after his short-arm jab to the defender's throat.

"It was clearly an open-handed strike to the upper chest and into the neck region of Alex Rance ... I didn't like the action," Christian told the AFL's website.

"It was a question of the level of impact.

"Whilst Alex was inconvenienced momentarily he was able to play on, didn't get any medical assistance and the medical report was clear.

"So it was decided on that evidence that it didn't reach the classifiable offence table and as a consequence he was fined under the misconduct provisions."

Franklin accepted a $1500 fine for the incident that occurred during Richmond's hard-fought win at Etihad Stadium.
