Crows unlikely to roll dice on McGovern

Adelaide forward Mitch McGovern appears likely to continue his comeback to the AFL from a hamstring injury in the state league ranks.

AFL leaders Adelaide appear unlikely to roll the dice just yet on the fitness of forward Mitch McGovern.

McGovern hasn't played for the Crows since injuring a hamstring in round three, but kicked four goals on return in state league ranks last Saturday.

Teammate Tom Lynch says McGovern is only an outside selection chance for next Thursday's home match against Hawthorn.

But the emerging forward, who falls off-contract with the Crows at season's end, impressed Lynch with his successful comeback.

"From what I saw with the way he played, yeah, certainly (he could return)," Lynch told reporters on Thursday.

"But there is obviously some steps that he needs to go through to get himself right, and that is from a physical standpoint.

"He's on limited game time and to step back in the furnace of an AFL game, he needs to get through a few more hurdles.

"He has been training pretty hard and that will be something up for match committee."

Adelaide's playing ranks will be bolstered after their bye, with forgotten 2016 recruits Paul Seedsman and Kyle Cheney returning in the state league.

Both have missed the entire AFL season because of groin injuries, with Seedsman returning to action last weekend.

"It has been a long journey for him since coming back this off-season," Lynch said of the former Collingwood utility.

"He has been really patient and worked really hard at getting his body right.

"We know what he can bring to our side and probably at times we get a little bit impatient because of how good a player he is and how much we would like him back, but he has been really good.

"Kyle Cheney is another one who has played for a couple of weeks now and he was in a similar boat.

"Those guys have really worked hard together and it will be good see them back out there soon."
