Crows unwilling to commit to Jarman in AFL

Adelaide have opted out of taking Ben Jarman as a father-son selection in this year's AFL draft.

Adelaide have backed out of nominating Ben Jarman, the son of AFL great Darren Jarman, as a father-son selection in next week's draft.

The Crows had flagged they would use their rights to the promising small forward but were unwilling to commit to taking Jarman with one of their five selections.

Hawthorn also had rights to Jarman but earlier chose to let him go.

Had Adelaide nominated Jarman before Friday's deadline, they would have been required to take him with one of their draft picks unless they had opted not to match a rival bid.

It remains possible another club will swoop on Jarman in the national draft.

If not, he will go to the rookie draft, where the Crows retain the right to nominate him as a father-son pick, in which case he would automatically join the club.

Crows list manager Justin Reid said on Friday the club had been open with Jarman throughout the draft process.

"As we have previously stated, we will be true to our talent order, which Ben is part of, and see how the draft selections fall," he said.

Geelong have also opted out of formally nominating father-son prospect Sam Simpson, the son of 114-gamer Sean Simpson.

The AFL confirmed on Friday that Collingwood's nomination of Callum Brown and Josh Daicos, the sons of Magpies royalty Gavin Brown and Peter Daicos.

West Coast have committed to taking Jake Waterman, the son of two-time premiership player Chris Waterman.

He follows the lead of older brother Alec, who spent two seasons on West Coast's list but struggled after contracting glandular fever and was delisted in October.
