Crushed man dies at Vic steel fabricator

A man has died after being crushed between two steel staircases at a steel fabricator in Wodonga.

A man has been fatally crushed between two steel staircases at a worksite near the Victoria-NSW border.

The Albury man, aged in his early 30s, died after being caught under the steel structures at the Wodonga business about 7.15am on Thursday, police said.

It is believed the workers at the structural steel fabrication business were using a crane to stack steel when the fatal incident occurred

The unstable structure hindered paramedics' ability to reach the man.

Worksafe has confirmed it is investigating.

Twenty people have been killed in Victoria's workplaces this year, twice as many as the same time last year.
