Cullen stumbles at European tour school

Australian golfer Nick Cullen has shot a six-over-par 78 to fall back into a tie for 24th after four rounds at the European tour final qualifying event.

If Australian golfer Nick Cullen ever felt he was cruising toward a European Tour card, he won't any longer.

The reigning Australian Masters champion was sitting pretty in a tie for fifth at the halfway mark at the qualifying school final stage in Spain.

But a horror six-over-par 78 on Tuesday dropped him into a tie for 24th with two rounds remaining to fight for the 25 cards on offer for tour membership next season.

Cullen carded eight bogeys against a solitary birdie in the fourth round at PGA Catalunya Resort.

He fell into a tie at six-under 278 with countrymen Dimi Papadolos (76) and Jason Scrivener (71).

Daniel Gaunt and Scott Arnold were the only other Australians to survive the fourth round cut for the top 75, both in a group tied 44th at three-under 281.

Jake Higginbottom carded a 67 on Tuesday but missed out at four-over, Todd Sinnott was eight-over and Antonio Murdaca finished a tournament to forget at 18-over 302 and tied last.

England's Daniel Gavins and Chris Hanson and South African Jean Hugo led the field at 14-under 270.
