Former One Nation senator Rod Culleton is in hospital after he was "ambushed" outside the Perth Magistrates Court and fell, injuring his wrist.
A spokeswoman for the independent senator told AAP he was leaving court on Tuesday morning when a man approached him with some papers and chased him up the street.
Senator Culleton, who had been in court for a civil matter involving his former friends Bruce Bell and Frank Bertola, fell over during the altercation with the man.
The 52-year-old went to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment, including an x-ray to check if his wrist was broken.
A police spokeswoman said officers were investigating the incident.
Senator Culleton was declared bankrupt by the Federal Court in Perth just before Christmas, which would disqualify him from parliament if the order stands, but he vowed at the time to appeal the case.
Justice Michael Barker has granted a 21-day stay on the bankruptcy order.
The WA District Court had ordered Senator Culleton to pay former Wesfarmers director Dick Lester $205,536 in 2013 - which has since increased to $280,000 - over unpaid rent relating to a $13.2 million 2009 property acquisition deal that soured.
Senator Culleton was elected in the July federal election as a representative of Pauline Hanson's One Nation but resigned in December from the party.
