Culleton chief angry over office notice

Former Senator Rod Culleton's chief of staff says she has had to clear out his office on Australia Day and she's not happy about it.

Former One Nation senator Rod Culleton's chief of staff says it's "despicable and deceitful" she had to clear out his parliamentary office on Australia Day.

The West Australian was earlier in January disqualified from sitting as a senator after becoming an undischarged bankrupt on December 23 - a court finding he disputes.

His chief of staff Margaret Menzel flew from Perth to Canberra, arriving on Thursday, after she discovered that January 26 was the deadline for the office clear-out.

Ms Menzel told AAP there were no boxes available on the public holiday to clear out the office and no parliamentary staff to advise her on what was required.

"I found out after the media was told," she said.

"I have not had a phone call and the email I received (dated January 24), I didn't see it until yesterday.

"I would suggest if they run the parliament this way they need to look very carefully at how the government's run."

It is not clear what correspondence Mr Culleton personally received in regard to the office, but AAP was told earlier this week he had been given the required two weeks' notice and offered a return airfare between Canberra and Perth.

Ms Menzel said the fact that the email she saw talked about staff being offered "counselling" showed the depth of the "deceit".

"I'll be taking it up with solicitors - you can't put people under this sort of duress, with their jobs and the senator's reputation and ours to be treated in this manner. It's despicable and deceitful."

The nameplate outside Mr Culleton's parliamentary office has already been removed.

The finance department has also issued him a notice to move out of his Perth office and hand back equipment such as phones and computers.

Mr Culleton told AAP earlier in the week he planned to turn up for the first session of parliament on February 7.

Senate President Stephen Parry is expected to outline the reasons for Mr Culleton's disqualification as the first order of business on that day.
