Former senator Rod Culleton found himself with a front row seat when Scott Morrison's campaign circus rolled into town.

The colourful Western Australian politician was going door-to-door with how-to-vote cards in Perth when he heard Mr Morrison was nearby.

So he stopped in his tracks and cracked open a stubby of beer to watch the parade across the street.

"Fancy being out doing how-to-vote cards and bugger me we've got the prime minister," Mr Culleton told reporters on Monday.

"We were a bit concerned he might have bought the house over the road."

"We were not too sure we were happy with the neighbours."
