Pat Cummins will wait until the domestic one-day competition to make a return to cricket as he battles back isssues.

Pat Cummins's return to cricket has again been postponed, with the 23-year-old to miss an Australia A series.

Cummins had been named for August's one-day series against a South African team in Queensland.

Cricket Australia says Cummins isn't injured and his return has been delayed to have the fast bowler ready for the 50-over domestic competition.

"Pat is going really well with his rehabilitation but is unlikely be ready to play at full match intensity during the Australia A tour," national selector Rod Marsh said.

"After discussions with Pat and the medical staff, we have decided to wait an extra month and look for him to return for New South Wales in the Matador Cup."

Cummins has not played competitive cricket since the one-day series in England last September.

He was named for Australia's ill-fated tour of Bangladesh last October, before he again broke down with back injuries.

Cummins made his Test debut for Australia against South Africa in 2011, claiming second-innings figures of 6-79.

Injuries have robbed him of further opportunities.
