Injury-prone quick Pat Cummins will likely make his return with NSW in the one-day domestic cup despite not being named in the initial Blues squad.
NSW named eight players with Australian experience in their 14-man squad on Tuesday for next month's title defence.
The competition was slated as Cummins' return when he was pulled out of an Australia A side this winter due to a back injury.
Although not named in the squad, the 23-year-old is expected to get a start in at least a few of NSW's round-robin matches.
NSW's campaign starts on October 7 against the Cricket Australia XI at Hurstville Oval in Sydney.
Cummins' fitness will be closely monitored over the next month given he hasn't played competitive cricket since last September's one-day series in England.
He was named for Australia's subsequent tour of Bangladesh, however withdrew due to stress fractures in his back before the series was eventually postponed.
Injuries have stopped him from adding to his debut Test against South Africa in 2011, where he claimed second-innings figures of 6-79.
Meanwhile Australian quick Josh Hazlewood will also be available for the Blues, but only once the rest of the Australian squad return from the South African one-day series midway through the tournament.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc would have been in the same position, had he not suffered a leg injury during training last week.
He will be unavailable for the entire tournament.
Nathan Lyon and Stephen O'Keefe will provide spinning options, while the Blues will be captained by Moises Henriques and feature the Test wicketkeeper Peter Nevill and veteran opener Ed Cowan.
"Our experience is very much in our batting and we will be relying heavily on those guys," coach Trent Johnston said.
"However our bowling has also stood up during past Matador Cup campaigns, with players like Doug Bollinger and Gurinder Sandhu performing well in the one-day format."
