Curry close to Warriors NBA return: Kerr

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr says Stephen Curry could return to the court after a groin problem as early as next week.

Golden State Warriors are closer to getting their All-Star point guard Stephen Curry back in their NBA line-up, according to coach Steve Kerr.

Curry, who has missed the team's last eight games because of a strained left groin muscle, is poised to return to action at some point during the Warriors' five-game road trip that starts on Thursday in Toronto.

Coach Steve Kerr updated media members before his team's Saturday game against the Sacramento Kings, explaining that Curry is "anxious" to get back on the court with the team.

"He's doing much better," Kerr told reporters.

"We're just going to keep taking it day by day. And Rick [Celebrini, Warriors director of sports medicine and performance] feels very strongly that he'll play on the road trip."

Kerr said that Curry, 30, had shown progress in a follow-up exam and plans to intensify his work in practice to prove his fitness.

Golden State have gone 3-5 since Curry has been out to be 13-7 this season, fourth in the western conference.

In just 12 games, Curry is averaging an NBA-best 29.5 points per game this season and shooting what would be a career-high 51.5 per cent from the field.
