Curry heroics save Golden State at OKC

Steph Curry has done it again, hitting a long-range bomb to help Golden State to an improbably overtime win over Oklahoma City Thunder.

AP - Stephen Curry's 32-foot bomb with six-tenths of a second remaining in overtime gave visiting Golden State a thrilling 121-118 victory over the Oklahoma City on Saturday night.

Curry scored 12 of his 46 points in overtime as the Warriors (53-5) won their fifth straight game and continued their march toward NBA history.

The win keeps the Warriors ahead of the pace of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who hold the NBA record with 72 wins.

Curry was 12-of-16 from the arc as he tied the NBA mark for three-pointers in a record shared by Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall.

Curry was particularly happy with the win after the Warriors got a rare spray from coach Steve Kerr at halftime when they were down 57-46.

"I think it lit a fire under us to go out and get this win," Curry said.

"A lot of heart and never quit has been our mantra all year.

"A lot had to go our way down the stretch, huge stops that ended possessions and I just had enough daylight to get it in."

He has 288 three-pointers this season, surpassing his NBA record of 286 from last season.

The Warriors led for less than 30 seconds in the entire game.

They trailed by four points with 14 seconds left in regulation after a three-pointer by Kevin Durant (37 points and 12 rebounds) before Klay Thompson made a layup.

Golden State then trapped Durant, who threw away a pass and fouled Andre Iguodala, whose two free throws with 0.7 seconds left forced overtime.

Durant fouled out in the extra session, but the Thunder still held a 118-115 lead with 33 seconds to play after a layup by Andre Roberson off a nice feed from Russell Westbrook, who had 26 points and 13 assists.

But Thompson tied it with a three-point play, and after Westbrook missed a jumper, Curry dribbled upcourt and caught the Thunder's defence backpedalling.

He launched a long three-pointer that splashed through before celebrating with his teammates on the bench.

Despite the Warriors' win the San Antonio Spurs won't let their tilt at the Western Conference title go and also won their fifth straight game with a 104-94 victory over the Houston Rockets.

LaMarcus Aldridge led the Spurs with a huge double-double that featured 26 points and 16 rebounds, while Australian Patty Mills had a quiet night, scoring just two points in 20 minutes.

In the Eastern conference the injury-ravaged Chicago Bulls dropped their second straight game with a 103-95 home loss to Portland that has them close to falling out of the top eight.

Even a Pau Gasol triple-double wasn't enough to get the Bulls close, the All Star centre finished his night with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 14 assists.

"It's up to us to continue to compete, continue to do the right things on the floor, play like every game is critically important, because it is. And they are," Gasol said.

Chicago are now just one game ahead of the Detroit Pistons in the East, with Washington, Orlando, New York and Milwaukee all still with their playoff hopes alive.
