Curry sparks Warriors past Thunder in NBA

The Golden State Warriors reinforced their status as the NBA's best team with a 116-108 win over the Oklahoma Thunder.

euters - Kevin Durant's monster haul of 14 points and 14 rebounds wasn't enough to stop Golden State Warriors going on their winning way in the NBA.

Fellow superstar Stephen Curry's 26 points and 10 assists helped the Warriors to a 116-108 home victory over Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night.

Harrison Barnes scored 19 points and Klay Thompson added 18 for the Warriors (46-4), who squandered a 20-point lead but made all the key plays down the stretch to improve to 23-0 at home this season.

The defending NBA champions have won 41 straight regular-season home games, the second-longest streak in league history.

Durant and Russell Westbrook (27 and 12 assists) threatened to produce an upset for the Thunder (38-14), who had a five-game winning streak snapped.

While the Warriors stay atop the standings, San Antonio tightened their grip on second spot with a 106-102 home win over the LA Lakers despite a riveting performance from Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, who is retiring at the end of this campaign after 20 seasons in the NBA, all with Los Angeles, finished with 25 points, 16 of them in the third period to help lead the Lakers back into the game.

"You've got to execute and we didn't for a lot of the game tonight and Los Angeles was fired up," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said.

"It was a great night for Kobe, which is thrilling because I think he's great. It's like watching Michael (Jordan). We made some mistakes and he took advantage of them. He's fantastic."

San Antonio got a game-high 26 points from forward LaMarcus Aldridge and 20 points and 13 rebounds from forward Kawhi Leonard.

Leonard also grabbed a huge offensive rebound after a missed free throw in the final minute as the Spurs turned up the heat on both ends of the floor in the last four minutes when it counted the most.

San Antonio (43-8) improved to 28-0 at the AT&T Center this season.

In other games, the host Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans, 99-84: the visiting Dallas Mavericks edged the Memphis Grizzlies, 114-110 in overtime; the Portland Trail Blazers handled the host Houston Rockets, 96-79; the Minnesota Timberwolves rallied past the visiting Chicago Bulls, 112-105; the host Charlotte Hornets trimmed the Washington Wizards, 108-104; the Indiana Pacers knocked off the visiting Detroit Pistons, 112-104; the Utah Jazz held off the host Phoenix Suns, 98-89; and the Philadelphia 76ers got past the visiting Brooklyn Nets, 103-98.
