A former ASIO boss is warning Australia's capacity to counter cyber threats and crime is relatively weak and not coordinated across the country.
In a submission to a parliamentary committee, David Irvine - now chair of the Cyber Security Research Centre - suggests there should be a new commonwealth-led agency to oversee and support cyber crime investigations.
"Australia's national capacity to counter threats and criminal activity using cyber investigative tools is relatively weak, uncoordinated and dispersed across a range of agencies in both Commonwealth and state jurisdictions ," he writes.
