The six events are a flying lap, points race, elimination race, individual pursuit, scratch race and time trial.
There are omnium events for both men and women, with the men's omnium replacing three other events, which were dropped to promote gender equality in Olympic cycling.
The men's omnium was won by Denmark's Lasse Norman Hansen, with Frenchman Bryan Coquard claiming silver and Great Britain's Edward Clancy taking bronze.
The women's event continues Tuesday (Wednesday morning Australian time).
