Cyclist Lowndes dies after car collision

Promising Australian cyclist Jason Lowndes has died aged 23 after a collision with a car while training in Victoria.

Australian professional cyclist Jason Lowndes has died after a collision with a car during training, Cycling Australia says.

Lowndes, who turned 23 last week, was struck by a car near his home in Bendigo on Friday.

Lowndes, a member of the 2016 Australian team, rode for Israel Cycling Academy in the 2017 season, and had signed with JLT Condor for 2018.

He finished sixth in the under-23 road race at last year's UCI world championships.
