Cyclone-hit hospitals to get relief staff

Doctors, nurses and other health professionals from Townsville will relieve tired staff at hospitals in cyclone-devastated north Queensland.

More than 70 health professionals from Townsville will relieve tired hospital staff who have been working around the clock in cyclone-devastated north Queensland.

Health Minister Cameron Dick said doctors, nurses, radiographers and support staff including social workers and tradies will be deployed on Wednesday afternoon.

Forty-eight health workers will be sent to Proserpine Hospital, while 24 will go to Bowen Hospital.

More relief staff will be sent to Mackay Hospital later this week.

"The willingness of our health workers in Townsville to volunteer to pitch in to help their colleagues in their neighbouring health service has been humbling," Mr Dick said,

"The communities and health workers at Bowen, Proserpine and Mackay should know that we stand with them and they will not be left to rebuild and recover alone."

The most serious patients in the region will be transferred to Townsville Hospital for care.
