Northern Territory residents are being advised to prepare a cyclone kit and make a plan for evacuation as a tropical low moves across the region.
The Bureau of Meteorology has upgraded its cyclone advice for the coastal areas from Daly River Mouth to Point Stuart including Darwin and the Tiwi Islands from a cyclone watch to a cyclone warning.
Forecasters say it's "reasonably probable" that the system will develop into a category 1 cyclone when it reaches the coast today.
BoM regional director Andrew Tupper says the cyclone could strengthen above a category one .. but won't be anything like Cyclone Yasi.
