D-day for coalition costings: Rudd

PM Kevin Rudd says it's "D-day" for the coalition to reveal its election promise costings.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says it's "D-day" for the coalition to reveal its election promise costings.

Treasury has released its Pre-Election Economic and Fiscal Outlook (PEFO) statement, giving a starting point for political parties on the direction of the economy and the budget.

Mr Rudd told reporters in Townsville on Tuesday the coalition now had no excuse to hide their costings.

"It is D-day for Mr Abbott when it comes to announcing his own budget bottom line," Mr Rudd said.

"Mr Abbott has been preparing for this election for three years.

"He's known precisely that we would get to this point where the PEFO document would be made public.

"It is fundamental for the Australian people to know where Mr Abbott's $70 billion worth of cuts to health, education and jobs are going to fall."
