Dale Copley is on standby for Justin Hodges for Sunday's NRL grand final ahead of the retiring Brisbane skipper's Tuesday night judiciary appearance.

Hodges is hoping to escape a career-ending one-match ban when he fronts the judiciary on a dangerous throw charge in Sydney.

Copley has been named on an extended bench as cover for Hodges.

Copley may slot straight into the centres for Hodges but can also play on the wing, giving coach Wayne Bennett a few options if his skipper's judiciary bid fails.

Brisbane are hoping to give Hodges a fairytale farewell in their first grand final berth since 2006.

Broncos: Darius Boyd, Corey Oates, Jack Reed, Justin Hodges (capt), Jordan Kahu, Anthony Milford, Ben Hunt, Sam Thaiday, Andrew McCullough, Adam Blair, Alex Glenn, Matt Gillett, Corey Parker. Interchange: Jarrod Wallace, Mitchell Dodds, Jo Ofahengaue, Kodi Nikorima, Dale Copley.
