Damian Martin unlikely for Perth Wildcats

Perth are unlikely to call up recovering Damian Martin for Saturday's NBL clash with Adelaide despite the injury crisis facing the club.

Perth's NBL injury crisis shows no sign of letting up, with captain Damian Martin unlikely to take the court against Adelaide on Saturday.

The Boomers' point guard is recovering from surgery on a broken jaw, and the club is holding out some hope he might be able to return for the match.

However even with fellow guard Jarrod Kenny still missing with a groin injury, coach Trevor Gleeson indicated on Wednesday it was unlikely they would be able to rush him back in time for the match.

"The swelling was a lot more than anticipated," he said.

"We've got to do the smart thing by him though and make sure the doctors are okay with it and that he's okay practising with it.

"I don't know if he'll get a practise in before the game, but we won't let him go without it."

The defending premiers suffered a further blow before last week's loss to Illawarra when import Andre Ingram returned to the US, citing mental health issues.

The shooting guard had only come into the squad last month for Jaron Johnson, who was released by the club.

Gleeson said the American's departure had Martin - who had more work done in surgery than expected following a collision two weeks ago - wanting to play against the Hawks.

"Typical Damo; he said 'let me go at them'," Gleeson said.

The Wildcats survived another scare at training on Monday when forward Matt Knight was taken from the court with a shoulder complaint, but was cleared of any serious injury.
