Two dancers, one born in Taiwan, the other in China, are sharing a top role in Australian Ballet's current production of Madame Butterfly.

Friends, rather than rivals, they are forging the way for the next generation of male dancers.

They are following in the footsteps of Li Cunxin, made famous in the book and movie, Mao's Last Dancer.
