The Danish inventor charged with the murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall on his submarine has voluntarily agreed to remain in pre-trial detention until his trial opens March 8, his lawyer says.
The prosecution said last month it was seeking life imprisonment for Peter Madsen. In addition to homicide, Madsen has been charged with indecent handling of a corpse as well as dismembering Wall's body.
Madsen admits to dumping her body at sea but denies killing her.
His current pre-trial detention was due to expire on Wednesday, but he opted not to seek a new detention hearing.
His lawyer Betina Hald Engmark said she had informed the prosecution about Madsen's decision.

"Of course we hope for a fair and just trial," she told tabloid Ekstra Bladet.
Madsen has been in detention in the high-profile and perplexing criminal case since August 12.
Wall, 30, was last seen on the evening of August 10 on an amateur-built submarine belonging to Madsen as it left Copenhagen harbour.
Her decapitated torso and other body parts have subsequently been found. Madsen has offered several different accounts of how Wall died on his vessel but says he did not kill her.
