David Jones to expand to Sunshine Coast

Upmarket department store chain David Jones will open its first Sunshine Coast store in two years time.

David Jones says it plans to open the store at a revamped Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore in southeast Queensland.

The store will feature an in-store cafe, a wide mix of clothing, homewares, beauty products and accessories, plus click & collect and personal styling services.

David Jones chief executive John Dixon said the Sunshine Coast was an important market and the new store's design will be similar to its Pacific Fair, Gold Coast store.

"This is a thriving and vibrant region with a discerning customer base made up of locals and a growing number of interstate and international visitors," he said.

David Jones, owned by South African retailer Woolworths, is expanding its store network while rival Myer is scaling back its footprint as the arrival of a flurry of international fashion retailers and increased competition from online retailers squeeze profits.
