The alleged thief who made worldwide headlines last year for his resemblance to character Ross from the TV comedy Friends was arrested after he failed to appear in court.

Abdulah Husseini was arrested in Wimbledon, south-west London, after failing to appear in court at Blackpool over allegations of theft and fraud.

Mr Husseini gained the attention of social media users around the world due to his resemblance to the Friends character after Lancashire police posted a photo of a suspect carrying beers at a shop in Blackpool last year.

Following the post, David Schwimmer - who plays Ross from Friends - imitated the photo with a mock video.

He captioned the video: "Officers, I swear it wasn't me. As you can see, I was in New York."

"To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation."

He added the hashtag #itwasntme to the post.

Mr Husseini is accused of stealing a coat, a phone and a wallet on September 20.
