Evergreen English legend Laura Davies says women's golf is in safe hands as young stars lead the charge ahead of the $150,000 Canberra Classic beginning on Friday.

The four-time major winner turned professional before most of the top contenders at Royal Canberra were even born, but Davies believes that is exciting for the game.

Australian No.1 Minjee Lee enters the three-day tournament in red-hot form after taking out last week's Victorian Open.

Lee dominated the field to win by five shots after sensational second and final-day rounds.

South Korea's former world No.1 Jiyai Shin is back in Canberra after winning the Australian Open at the same course back in 2013.

"All our best players in the world are all young now ... they are fit and strong and hit it really well," Davies, 54, said.

"Minjee Lee and Jiyai Shin are playing this week and if you finish ahead of them you're probably going to win."

The World Golf Hall of Famer is not ruling out her own chances of adding a ninth title on the Australian Ladies Professional Golf tour to the trophy cabinet, despite being ranked 412 in the world.

"I'm hitting it okay ... I'm happy with my swing and that's the main thing," Davies said.

While Davies is tipping Lee and Shin as the frontrunners, Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger, is expected to feature prominently.

Davies' countrywoman Georgia Hall tied for third at 13th Beach, six shots behind Lee.

But at only 21 years old, European No.1 Hall is fast shooting up the world rankings, earning a spot at 36 this week.

The first groups will tee off at 7.30am on Friday, with Lee, Shin and Hall all on course at 8.03am.
