Dawson accepts three-week AFL layoff

Zac Dawson's rough conduct charge will rule the Fremantle defender out for the next three AFL matches.

Fremantle defender Zac Dawson has accepted a three-week ban for a nasty bump on Sydney's Jake Lloyd.

Dawson earned his suspension for rough conduct in the Dockers' 90-point flogging by the Swans.

The maligned defender ignored the ball and chose to bump the 22-year-old in the fourth quarter when the game was already lost.

The match review panel judged the action careless conduct with high impact to the head.

A poor record over Dawson's three-club and 163-game career meant the penalty was upped to three weeks, which the AFL strugglers decided to wear on Tuesday.

An unsuccessful challenge to the ban would have meant a four-week layoff and the end to Dawson's year.

Fremantle have just three wins to date and are likely to finish in their worst position since their sole wooden spoon-winning season of 2001.

Coach Ross Lyon will miss Dawson for matches against finals-bound sides West Coast, Adelaide and Greater Western Sydney.

All three opponents are known for their strong-marking forward lines, making Dawson's act all the more irresponsible and costly.

North Melbourne's Jed Anderson, Collingwood youngster Jonathon Marsh, Port Adelaide utility Jackson Trengove and Brisbane pair Josh Walker and Nick Robertson all accepted $1000 fines for minor round 19 incidents.
