FEDERAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN: DAY 27

--

WHERE THE LEADERS ARE CAMPAIGNING

* Prime Minister Scott Morrison: is in regional Victoria, near the NSW border, in the independent-held seat of Indi.

* Labor leader Bill Shorten: is starting the day in Melbourne and is expected in regional seats.

--

WHAT THE COALITION WANTS TO TALK ABOUT

How the coalition is good for the regions, with announcements vowing to eliminate one million square kilometres worth of "mobile blackspots", and $15 million on five new regional study hubs.

--

WHAT LABOR WANTS TO TALK ABOUT:

Will return to health care and hospital funding, with Mr Shorten expected to focus to the regions. Labor is releasing data it says shows almost a third of the $2.8 billion "cuts" to hospitals hit regional areas.

--

WHAT IS MAKING NEWS:

* Not politics, but a news stealer: Prince Harry and his wife Meghan's baby boy finally arrived overnight. Much of the media attention has been diverted. Both leaders are expected to congratulate the royal couple - who announced they were expecting on the first day of their visit to Australia last October.

* Everyone else is watching the Reserve Bank at 2.30pm for its announcement on the official cash rate. There is some expectation that it will cut the rate - which has been sitting at at a record low of 1.5 per cent since August 2016 - because of its concerns about the economy. That would put a dampener on the government's economic management claims.

* A poll in the Adelaide Advertiser is not good news for the Downer political dynasty. Georgina Downer, daughter of former Howard foreign minister Alexander, is on track for her second thrashing by Centre Alliance MP Rebekha Sharkie in the Adelaide Hills seat of Mayo. The YouGov Galaxy poll shows Ms Sharkie leading Ms Downer 57-43 per cent on a two party-preferred basis.

THEY SAID WHAT?

"I think it's a national disaster, (a) national emergency." - Bill Shorten on indigenous suicide.

"Labor's launch on the weekend I thought was very much about the Labor Party. I just want to have a conversation with people on Sunday directly about the choice." - Scott Morrison on Sunday's campaign launch.
