* PLAYER OF THE DAY: Elfin 11th seed David Goffin reached his first quarter-final at the Australian Open with a four-set triumph over world No.8 and friend Dominic Thiem. An honourable mention to Johanna Konta who impressed once more with a quick dismissal of 30th seed Ekaterina Makarova.
* STAT OF THE DAY: Mirjana Lucic-Baroni ended an 18-year wait to return to the last eight of a major when she defeated qualified Jennifer Brady - 20 years after winning the junior championship at Melbourne Park. The former teen prodigy made the semi-finals of Wimbledon as a 17-year-old.
* QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I will tell it to anybody struggling out there, F-everything and everybody who ever tells you you can't do it. Just show up and do it with your heart," Lucic-Baroni in her post-match acceptance speech.
* KEY MOMENT: After blowing seven set points, Serena Williams took the eighth in bizarre style. The world No.2 framed a forehand over the net which opponent left Barbara Strycova helpless and moved Williams into a last-eight meeting with Konta.
