Jason Day has become a father for the second time, with his wife Ellie giving birth to their first daughter, Lucy, in America.

Jason Day's year has ended on a high, celebrating the birth of his second child.

Day, who this year rose to world No.1 off the back of wins at the US PGA, The Barclays and BMW Championship, had the birth of his first daughter, Lucy, confirmed on Wednesday.

The Queenslander, who celebrates his own birthday on Thursday, skipped the HSBC Champions tournament to stay in America with his wife Ellie last week, allowing American Jordan Spieth to reclaim the top ranking.

Day will also sit out the Australian Open later this month to be with his wife and newborn child.
