Jason Day has dropped seven shots off the lead at the midway mark of the US PGA Tour's tournament in South Korea after carding a two-over par 74 in tricky conditions.

The world No.9 slipped well off the pace at two-under overall to be tied for 24th, a long way behind Luke List who sits at the top of the leaderboard at nine-under thanks to a second-round 67 on Friday.

The American holds a one-stroke lead following a windy day at the Nine Bridges course on the island of Jeju in the first US PGA Tour regular-season event to be held in South Korea.

Lucas Glover (67) and Scott Brown (70) are at eight-under.

A day after firing a sizzling 63 to claim the first-round lead, Justin Thomas carded a 74 to slip into a share of fourth - a shot further back - with Australia's Cameron Smith (68).

Marc Leishman signed for an even-par 72 to be tied for sixth at six-under following an impressive round of 66 on Friday. Kim Whee maintained home hopes with a 70 that put him level with Leishman, Patrick Reed and Chez Reavie.

"If the wind does not blow out here, there will be a lot of birdies," List said.

"If the wind does blow, you can kind of be a little bit more strategic and try to make some pars out there."

Adam Scott's dismal tournament continued when he added a 75 to his opening-round 72 to slump to three-over.

Bae Sang-moon, understandably rusty after two years away from golf to fulfil his mandatory military service obligations, dropped out of contention after a 76 left him level with Scott.
