Day five snapshot of the fifth Ashes Test

A snapshot of day five of the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney.

* Score: Australia won by an innings and 123 runs. England 180 (Joe Root 58, Jonny Bairstow 38) and 346, Australia 7(dec)-649 (Usman Khawaja 171, Shaun Marsh 156).

* Man of the moment: Joe Root. After being hit on the thumb on Sunday and being hospitalised due to a stomach bug on Monday morning, the England skipper had every right to sit in the dressingroom with the game and the series well and truly lost. However he came out to bat in the first session, adding another 16 to his overnight score, before retiring hurt for a second time after lunch.

* Key moment: When Pat Cummins trapped Jonny Bairstow lbw, it marked the end of England's resistance. Root and Bairstow looked like they were determined to draw out the inevitable but Cummins took three wickets in the post-lunch session to end the fight.

* Stat of the day: Seven - the number of times Nathan Lyon has dismissed Moeen Ali during the Ashes. When Lyon trapped the under-fire all-rounder for 13 in the morning session, it equalled the record for most dismissals of a batsmen by a bowler in a Test series.

* Summary: Australia have wrapped up a dominant 4-0 rout of England following an innings-and-123-run win in the fifth Test in Sydney. This series has changed the careers of the likes of Tim Paine and Shaun and Mitchell Marsh and may cost several England players theirs.

* Quote of the day: "He's not had any sleep, he's not eaten, he's had diarrhoea and he's been vomiting. So I'm guessing he's not in a great state at the minute. To get to the ground in itself is a great effort and to strap his pads on and get out there and bat for as long as he did is great and shows what sort of character he is," - Jimmy Anderson on teammate Joe Root.
