World No.1 Jason Day has confirmed he will play the Australian Open, World Cup double in the Australian summer of golf.
Day will contest his first Australian Open since 2013 at Royal Sydney on November 17-20 before heading to Kingston Heath in Melbourne for the World Cup on November 24-27.
He will go head-to-head in Sydney with the likes of current world No.2 Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott and potentially American world No.7 Rickie Fowler who is considering a trip to Australia
After missing the last two golf summers on home soil because of injury rehab and the birth of his daughter, Day confirmed he is excited about returning for the first time since becoming a major champion last year.
"I am really looking forward to getting back to compete for and hopefully win the Australian Open before playing in the World Cup for Australia," Day told AAP.
"It's been a long time and I have missed Australia very much and I can't wait to share some of the success I've been lucky enough to have with the Australian people."
Day, who was sixth in 2013 and fourth in 2011 in his last two Australian Open appearances, says winning his national open is one of his highest priorities.
Previous winners include giants of the game like Gene Sarazen, Norman Von Nida, Peter Thomson, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Tom Watson, Scott, Rory McIlroy and Spieth.
"Winning the Australian Open would be like a major victory for me. I hold it that high," Day said.
"I grew up watching the summer of golf back home and always had those dreams of winning our big tournaments. When I was really young they were the same to me as watching the Masters at Augusta.
"The names on the Stonehaven Cup are just incredible and I would be lying if I didn't say it would be incredibly special to me to have my name on there for all time.
"I am hoping I can win it multiple times and get back and play for it as much as possible in the future."
Day is then expecting to team up with Scott at the World Cup. The duo won the team portion in 2013, while Day also won the now-defunct individual part of the tournament.
As the highest ranked Australian in the world Day gets to choose his partner and has extended the invitation to his fellow Queenslander.
