Day wins record sixth Coolangatta Gold

Ali Day has won a sixth Coolanagtta Gold surf ironman title while Georgia Miller claimed the women's title.

Surfers Paradise surf ironman Ali Day is the undisputed king of the Coolangatta Gold endurance race after claiming a record-breaking sixth title by a record margin.

Day romped to victory by almost 21 minutes from New Zealand's Max Beattie, clocking a time of four hours and one minute.

It took him past Caine Ecksten who won five titles between 2005 and 2011.

"I love this event so much," said Day, who sequence of six wins is broken only in 2014 when he was unable to compete due to illness and injury.

"I had a crack at it in the under-19s and it broke me. Today I was pretty emotional, just tears of joy looking at my dad Ross and my brother and my partner and all my friends that I had there today.

"I just can't believe it really that a kid that was 18 years old that couldn't get on the podium - now I've got six."

Sydney's Georgia Miller, 21, claimed her maiden women's title in 4:29.22 from Northcliffe teammate Danielle McKenzie (4:39.08) and Noosa's Australian champion Lana Rogers(4:41.42).
