Jason Day's wife Ellie was taken away in a neck brace on a stretcher to hospital after being accidentally crunched by Cleveland superstar LeBron James while watching an NBA match.

Jason and Ellie Day had courtside seats at Quicken Loans Arena for the game between Cleveland and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The four-time NBA MVP was chasing a loose ball when he tumbled towards the seats, with Ellie Day wearing the full impact of James' 113kg frame.

While motionless for some time Ellie was treated courtside during a timeout - during which a concerned James and Cleveland teammates made their way over - before she was transported away.

Ellie was talking and was able to squeeze James' hand during an apology as she left the arena.

Ellie gave birth to the Day's second child, Lucy Adenil Day, on November 11 and was enjoying her first time out since.

The Australian golfing superstar lives just outside Columbus, Ohio and has attended Cavaliers games in the past.

The world No.2 is currently in the midst a lengthy off-season to be with his family after the birth.

Day claimed his maiden major in August at the US PGA Championship before claiming the world No.1 ranking off the back of wins at The Barclays and BMW Championship.

American Jordan Spieth has since reclaimed the top spot.

James told gathered reporters he had been informed Ellie "was doing fine".

Cavaliers head coach David Blatt said after the match James "made an honest attempt" at the basketball, suggesting the fault lay with the court-level seats.

"It's always concerned me, the sideline seats," Blatt said.

"When you're talking about players of this speed and physicality and effort level, it's not a simple thing.

"The powers that be are the ones that really need to decide how to deal with that.

"We all hope she's OK."
