DCE, Walker to fine-tune combination

Daly Cherry-Evans and Dylan Walker will play in the Sea Eagles' halves for the first time together in Manly's NRL pre-season trial against Ipswich Jets.

Daly Cherry-Evans and Dylan Walker will be given their first opportunity to fine-tune their new halves' combination on Saturday when Manly host Ipswich Jets in their final NRL pre-season trial.

One of several big off-season recruits for the Sea Eagles, Walker's combination with Cherry-Evans will be crucial for the club in 2016 in the wake of Kieran Foran's defection to Parramatta.

Former South Sydney centre Walker spent much of his junior football playing five-eighth and Cherry Evans has already predicted big things this year for the 2014 premiership winner.

New Manly coach Trent Barrett has named the duo in his halves for the first time for this weekend's hitout against the second-tier national champion Jets at Pittwater Park.

"It has been a good transition for me; I am enjoying my time here," Walker said.

"Since I have been here, I have been a happier and better person. Coming over here has eased my mind.

"Me and Chez get along well off the field, and it is going pretty well on the field.

"We are enjoying each other's company and for me (I am enjoying) the new challenge of playing five-eighth."

The match will be Walker's first since he overdosed in September on prescription drugs.

The match will also be the first in Sea Eagles colours for key acquisitions Martin Taupau and Nate Myles.
