Deadly accident at France nuclear site

One person has been killed after an underground wall collapsed at a French nuclear waste site during a geophysical survey.

An underground laboratory belonging to the French national radioactive waste management agency was evacuated after a collapse killed one person and injured another.

The department of Meuse, 225km east of Paris, said preliminary information indicated that the face of a wall collapsed on Tuesday during a geophysical survey.

It added that authorities were trying to verify the stability of the area.

A technician from French construction company Eiffage was killed and another lightly injured by the collapse, a spokeswoman for Meuse said in a statement.
