Leaving the White House by helicopter, Trump told reporters that "we're working on a plan" for the high-profile Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which his administration has vowed to scrap.
Trump said that congressional leaders of his Republican Party, which holds majorities in both chambers, are "very much on board" with a deal that would address DACA.
He said an agreement must include "massive border security."
Trump, who has taken initial steps to implement his campaign promise to fortify the Mexican border, said that "the wall will come later."
He earlier denied an assertion by two top Democrats that they reached an agreement that would preserve protections for young immigrants in the US illegally while providing border security enhancements.
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said on Wednesday they reached agreement to restore DACA program in exchange for security enhancements.
But Trump denied this on Twitter early on Thursday.
"No deal was made last night on DACA," Trump wrote in one of a series of posts on Twitter, referring to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
