Victorian Greens MP Lidia Thorpe says she won't be silenced despite receiving death threats after calling for flags to be flown at half-mast on Australia Day.
Ms Thorpe received graphic rape and death threats after she "respectfully asked that we have a conversation about lowering our flag to recognise the grief and suffering caused to our First Nations people on January 26".
"It's been a tough few days for me, my staff and my family," the Member for Northcote tweeted on Saturday.
"To personally receive these threats has shaken every one of us.But I will not live in fear."
Some of the threats were signed 'Real Australians', Ms Thorpe said.
"But I know these people do not represent the majority of people in our great country," she wrote.
"I know that we are better than this."
Ms Thorpe is the first Aboriginal woman elected to the Victorian parliament.
She trumped 90 years of Labor reign in her inner-Melbourne seat to win a November by-election.
The Gunnai-Gunditjmara woman said on the night of her victory she was "privileged and honoured" to make history.
